Play Podcasts Directly with Google Reader
February 2nd, 2007 | by Ryan Stewart |The recent availability of NPR’s “Fresh Air” sent me searching for an easy way to play podcasts in my browser. Sure, I could use Odeo or the Gmail MP3 player, but podcasts are just RSS feeds, so why not use my feed reader of choice? Enter Google Reader.

While I realize this isn’t the best option for everyone, for me, it’s perfect. Google Reader has changed the way I deal with feeds and now, I suspect it will change the way I listen to podcasts. Here are a few of the podcasts I’ll be adding very soon (if I haven’t already).
What else should I add to this list? Post your suggestions in the comments.

Agreed. Google reader has vastly improved my ability to read feeds no matter when I’m located. The gpod feature is nice, but would be nicer with a pop-out feature like the gtalk offers in gmail. Gee.

I agree completely, Jon. Hopefully the Google Reader team already has this in the works. For a podcast like the ones I have listed above, a pop-out is the only good option. 1-hour shows just don’t lend themselves to inline listening - mainly because I forget and want to look at another item in my list of feeds!
